Qurbani

Udhiyah, often referred to as Qurban, is the animal sacrifice that Muslims around the world perform during Eid al-Adha whether or not they are on pilgrimage. It commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ emphasized the significance of this act, saying:

“Whoever can afford to offer a sacrifice but does not do so, let him not approach our place of prayer.” (Sunan Ibn Majah)

Allah also commands in the Quran:

“So pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him alone].” – Surah Al-Kawthar (108:2)

Unlike Hady, Udhiyah is performed by all eligible Muslims, regardless of location. It is a Sunnah Mu’akkadah (highly recommended Sunnah), and the sacrifice can be performed anywhere around the world between the 10th and 13th of Dhul Hijjah

🐐

Hady

Hady refers to the sacrificial offering made by pilgrims during Hajj, specifically those performing Hajj Tamattu’ or Hajj Qiran. It is obligatory for them as part of completing their pilgrimage rites. This ruling comes directly from the Quran, where Allah says:

“Then whoever performs Umrah [during the Hajj months] followed by Hajj, he must offer a Hady such as he can afford…” – Surah Al-Baqarah (2:196)

The Hady sacrifice is only performed in Makkah during the Hajj period (10th to 12th Dhul Hijjah). It is not applicable to Muslims who are not performing Hajj. It is also important to note that Hady cannot be performed outside the boundaries of the Haram in Makkah

🐏

Aqiqah

A sacrifice performed to celebrate the birth of a child. Traditionally, two animals are sacrificed for a boy and one for a girl, expressing gratitude and seeking blessings for the newborn

🕌

Sadaqah

Voluntary charity given out of compassion, love, or generosity. While not always a sacrifice of animals, it can include livestock given to help those in need at any time of the year

💝

Fidya

A donation made when someone cannot fast during Ramadan due to illness or old age. It involves feeding a poor person for each day of fasting missed

🤲

Kaffarah

An expiation or compensation for breaking an oath or missing fasts intentionally. It can involve feeding 60 poor people or fasting for 60 consecutive days as atonement
